ATHANASIOS LYKIDIS Ph.D.

Scientist, Genomes and Lipids Group

Athanasios (Thanos) Lykidis holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and he specializes in lipid metabolism. He did his postdoctoral studies at the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, working on phospholipid metabolism. He then joined Integrated Genomics Inc. where he was responsible for the curation of Lipid metabolism. Thanos joined the Genome Biology program at the JGI in 2004, to lead the function prediction and metabolic reconstruction group. He is also leading the JGI’s gene QA pipeline. The main focus of his research interests is on recognizing the genes participating in lipid metabolic pathways and on reconstructing the lipid metabolism of organisms, based on their genome sequence.
